Jim is a seasoned financial advisor with over two decades of experience guiding business owners and families through pivotal financial decisions. As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), Jim brings a unique blend of strategic insight and personal empathy to every client relationship.
His career has been defined by a commitment to helping clients move beyond fragmented financial products toward holistic, purpose-driven planning. Jim’s strength lies in his ability to simplify complexity—whether it’s navigating a business transition, aligning personal and professional goals, or answering the question, “When can I stop working?”
Inspired by his sailing background, Jim founded Velaris to reflect the values of navigation, care, and clarity. The name itself combines “vela” (sail) and “velar” (to watch over), symbolizing his role as both guide and guardian in his clients’ financial journeys.
Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from East Carolina University and an MBA in Finance from William & Mary. He’s known for his approachable style, deep listening, and unwavering dedication to helping clients feel confident, informed, and empowered.
